The Call — Paul Gauguin
An oversized Symbolist canvas print in pink and green. Its rose-pink ground floods the lower wall with warm colour while the shaded grove above keeps the top cool, turning a hallway, hotel corridor or bedroom wall into a lit clearing at dusk.
Visual Presence
The broad rose-pink field is what the room reads first — a warm glow across the lower two-thirds of the wall that flushes a pale interior with colour even on a grey day. Above it the deep greens and band of blue sky stay cool, so the wall appears lit from the ground up, the way a clearing catches late sun. At full height the two standing women meet you near life size, and the raised pointing arm carries the eye down the length of a corridor or stair hall.
About the Art
Paul Gauguin (1848–1903), Post-Impressionism, painted 1902. Paul Gauguin painted The Call on a remote Polynesian island about a year before his death, in the late series where he turned memory and imagination into dreamlike scenes of life and death. Two barefoot women stand on sacred ground; one turns to face us while the other points to someone beyond the frame — answering, the Cleveland Museum of Art suggests, a call from fate or destiny. For all his modernism, Gauguin borrowed the pointing figure from the Parthenon frieze. The painting hangs in Cleveland's Impressionism galleries, the gift of the Hanna Fund. We chose it as one of his last, most mysterious visions.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
