A large Symbolist canvas print in orange and brown. Its three cream halos glow out of the dark carved ground like lamplight, giving a dining room, restaurant or reception wall the warmth of firelit timber.
Visual Presence
From across the room the canvas reads as one panel of dark carved wood, its burnt-orange grain glowing like embers and warming the whole wall. The three pale halos stay the brightest points in the space, pulling the eye back to the seated god even under low evening light. The palette deepens timber, leather and brass around it, so the piece anchors a dining or lounge wall that already carries those materials.
About the Art
Paul Gauguin placed Te atua — 'The God' — at the devotional heart of the Noa Noa Suite, the woodcut cycle he carved to accompany the journal of his first Tahitian voyage. A deity sits in meditation inside a pale halo, flanked by a haloed couple and a standing idol: Polynesian myth carved with the stillness of a temple relief. This impression was printed with the painter Louis Roy in black ink over a stencilled dark-red tone block, and the image fronted the cover of a New York exhibition of modern master prints. We chose it as the suite's most commanding devotional image — a small block with the authority of an altar.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
