The Large Tree — Paul Gauguin
A big Symbolist canvas print in green and pink. Its heavy tree canopy drops cool late-day shade over a living room, dining room or hotel reception, while the pink thatched roof and rust-red earth keep the whole wall glowing warm.
Visual Presence
From across the room the canvas reads as deep tropical shade — a wall of layered greens that settles a bright space the way real trees over a courtyard do. The pink-mauve band of hut and clearing running through the middle holds the warmth, so under evening lamps the wall shifts from cool shade to island dusk. The women resting under the big tree only resolve as you come closer, giving a living or dining wall a quiet scene to walk into.
About the Art
Paul Gauguin (1848–1903), Post-Impressionism, painted 1891. Paul Gauguin abandoned his stockbroker's career and sailed for Tahiti; this canvas is among the very first paintings he completed on the island. Four women shelter in a friezelike row under the dark leaves of the large tree that names the work, a hut with a pink thatched roof behind them. Gauguin meant these rich colours and stylised figures to be symbolic and mysterious — 'harmonies that represent nothing real in absolute sense', in his own words. It hangs in the Cleveland Museum of Art, the gift of Barbara Ginn Griesinger. We chose it as the fresh first sight of his Tahitian world.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
