A large Expressionist canvas print in pink and red. The harvest stooks and wagon hoods are broken into wedges of dusty rose and rust that tilt right across the full width, so a dining room, a hotel lobby or a boardroom gets one long band of warm worked colour where a flat wall used to be.
Visual Presence
Printed close to three metres wide, the dusty rose and rust surface throws a warm, late-afternoon light back into the room, so a dining room sits warmer with it up before anyone has looked at it properly. From across the space nothing resolves into objects — it reads as one long tilted slope of pink crossed by short red lines — and that is what lets it carry a wide empty wall on its own instead of a group of smaller frames. Up close the stooks, the pale yellow wagon hood and the slate-grey cart bodies separate out of the mass, so the wall keeps giving something back as people move past it.
About the Art
Constant Permeke (1886–1952), Expressionism, painted 1917. Constant Permeke (1886–1952), Flemish Expressionism, painted 1917. We chose it because it was made in exile, not in a studio. A shell splinter wounded him defending the Antwerp forts in 1914; he was evacuated to England and spent four and a half years in remote villages. The canvas is signed SIDFORD 1917, after the Devon village his family reached that spring. Cut off from the art world, he wrote to Gustave De Smet and André De Ridder for news of Cubism and German Expressionism, and worked out the heavy handling that became Flemish Expressionism. Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
