Visual Presence
This canvas turns a wall into pure colour-energy: banded ochre, pink and brown hills under a mass of white cloud, every form held in thick dark outlines that carry clear across a room. About the Art
Marsden Hartley painted here an imagined landscape that is farewell and greeting at once — a depleted New England forest of grey stumps opening onto the golden hills of New Mexico — and that emotional double exposure is why it earned its place. Worn down by the East Coast, Hartley spent eighteen months in the Southwest seeking restoration, writing to his dealer Alfred Stieglitz that "I like the country very well, for it is big and clean and true". The bold black outlines carry that conviction through the banded hills and stacked clouds. The painting entered the Art Institute of Chicago with the Alfred Stieglitz Collection.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
