Trunks of Pines in Sunlight — Christian Rohlfs
A large Pointillist canvas print in pink and pale blue. There is no horizon and no sky in it, only pine trunks running the full height of the canvas through a screen of rose, cream and pale blue dabs, so a living room, a bedroom or a hotel corridor reads as if you are standing one step inside the trees with the light coming through from behind them.
Visual Presence
Printed two to three metres tall the trunks run well past your own height, so a living room or a bedroom stops reading as a wall with a picture on it and starts reading as a view into the trees. There is almost no dark mass in the picture, so it throws no weight into the space: the rose and cream dabs bounce a warm pale light back and make a narrow room feel wider and taller than it is. From across the room the thousands of separate marks fuse into one soft shimmer, and only up close does the wall break apart again into individual loaded brushstrokes, which is what keeps a hallway or a long bedroom wall worth walking past every day.
About the Art
Christian Rohlfs (1849–1938), Expressionism, painted 1903. Christian Rohlfs (1849–1938), German Neo-Impressionism, painted 1903. We chose it for the year Rohlfs changed his mind. He was fifty-four, trained in the Weimar academy manner, and then he saw van Gogh's work and broke his own painting into separate loaded dabs: upright strokes for the trunks, gently curved ones for the air between them, no horizon, no path, no living creature. The Kunsthalle zu Kiel owns it and nearly lost it. It was among 156 works the Nazis seized from that collection in 1937 as degenerate, and the museum bought it back sixty-six years later.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
