The White Heron — Joseph Stella
An oversized Botanical canvas print in green and light blue. The heron stands the full height of the canvas, so printed two to three metres tall the bird comes out close to life-size and its long white neck pulls the eye straight up, which is what makes it work on the tall narrow wall beside a staircase, in an entrance hall, or behind a reception desk where the ceiling is high and the wall is doing nothing.
Visual Presence
Two-thirds of this print is flat unbroken colour — pale blue above, sea-green below — so it throws no busy pattern and no dark weight into a room; a living-room wall with it up reads cooler and quieter than it did bare. From across the space only the white bird and the white star-shaped flowers carry, sitting on that plain ground like lit shapes, which is why it still holds a wall you look at from six metres away. Printed tall it gives a room a vertical line the way a window does, so a low bedroom wall or a narrow entrance hall feels taller with it there.
About the Art
Joseph Stella (1877–1946), Modern, painted 1919. Joseph Stella (1877–1946), American modernism, painted 1919. We chose it because it is the quiet opposite of the Stella everyone knows. The man who painted the Brooklyn Bridge in steel and electric light also painted this: a heron standing among pale flowers and broad ribbed leaves, flat as a screen, drawn with the patience of his silverpoint botanicals. Yale University Art Gallery catalogues it as botanical, and records a full-length painting of a man on the back of the same canvas. It came to Yale in 1941 with the Collection Société Anonyme, the modern-art collection Katherine Dreier assembled with Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
