Neapolitan Song — Joseph Stella
A large Modernist canvas print in green and light blue. One palmetto leaf opens its spikes from the bottom of the canvas to the top with Vesuvius smoking small and blue behind it, so a living room, a hotel lobby or a wellness reception gets a single green fan taller than a person and a cool teal band of the bay running under it.
Visual Presence
Printed two to three metres tall the palmetto spikes reach well past head height, and the pale blue-white sky behind them throws a cool, shaded-garden light back into the room, so a living room with hard surfaces reads planted rather than bare. From across the space only three things carry — the green star of the leaf, the pale sky it cuts across and the teal strip of sea — while the white bird lying in the grass and the smoke thread off Vesuvius only appear once you are a few steps away, which keeps a big wall worth walking up to. There is one plant, one bird and one mountain in it and no crowd or architecture anywhere, so for all its colour it settles a room down instead of charging it up.
About the Art
Joseph Stella (1877–1946), Modern, painted 1929. Joseph Stella (1877–1946), American Modernism, painted 1929. We chose it for the homesick side of the man who painted the Brooklyn Bridge. Stella left Muro Lucano for New York at nineteen and kept sketching the exotic plants in the Bronx Botanical Garden; here he transplants them onto an imagined Bay of Naples with Vesuvius behind. The Smithsonian American Art Museum, which holds it as the gift of Françoise and Harvey Rambach, reads the palmetto's spreading tips as a wave of sound made visible — the song of the title, carried back across the Atlantic. Oil on canvas, 97.5 by 71.7 centimetres.

Each print is custom stretched and framed at our Melbourne facility. Every piece is cut and assembled by hand, to ensure the highest quality finish.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
Production: 3 days.
Delivery: 1–2 weeks worldwide — tracked, insured, shipping included. Framed and stretched options are available for Australia & New Zealand only — see Worldwide Delivery.
