Battle of Lights, Coney Island, Mardi Gras — Joseph Stella
A huge Futurist canvas print in blue and green. The whole surface is cut into small blue and green facets with a gold and white blaze of fairground light running up the middle, so a living room, a hotel lobby or an entryway wall reads as one lit crowd from the far end of the room and the eye never settles on a single spot.
Visual Presence
Printed two metres wide, the blue and green facets throw cool, broken colour right across a living room while the gold and white blaze up the centre works like a second lamp, so a wall that only gets side lighting stops reading flat. There is no one subject to fix on, so the piece keeps a lobby or a long room alive at the far end without pulling attention off the people sitting in front of it. Walk up close and the carnival separates into its parts — the red tent, the beaded blue costume, the painted letters PARK — which gives a wall you pass every day something new to find.
About the Art
Joseph Stella (1877–1946), Modern, painted 1913. Joseph Stella (1877–1946), Futurism, painted 1913–14. We chose it because this is where American painting first went electric. Stella started it after coming back from Paris, and it was both his first American subject and his first work in the Futurist mode: the crowd, the Ferris wheel, the roller coasters and the lit-up Mardi Gras at Coney Island broken into one continuous arabesque. Fragments of the real signs survive in the paint — Steeplechase Park, Feltman's restaurant, where the hot dog was born — and the letters C-O-M nod to commedia dell'arte. Yale University Art Gallery, oil on canvas, 195.6 by 215.3 centimetres, gift of the Collection Société Anonyme, 1941.689.

Each print is custom stretched and framed at our Melbourne facility. Every piece is cut and assembled by hand, to ensure the highest quality finish.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.

For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
Production: 3 days.
Delivery: 1–2 weeks worldwide — tracked, insured, shipping included. Framed and stretched options are available for Australia & New Zealand only — see Worldwide Delivery.
