Visual Presence
A tangle of stylised leaves, palms and fronds fills the canvas in cool blue-greens and deep olive, parting around an oval of hushed grey-green sky. Pink blossoms and a tall spike of white flowers punctuate the growth, while two soft brown animals peer out from the undergrowth at lower centre. The mood is dim and dreamlike, green massed on green with pink and white as gentle, glowing accents.
About the Art
Henri Rousseau painted The Equatorial Jungle in the final year of his life, one of the imagined tropical scenes on which his fame rests. He never saw a jungle, building these luxuriant fantasies instead from the greenhouses of the Paris botanical gardens, illustrated magazines and the city's natural history displays. Here he exaggerated the scale of common plants and flowers into a towering, enclosing world, framing an oval of pale sky and tucking small creatures into the foliage. The painting was acquired by the collector Chester Dale and bequeathed to the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
