Winged Fortune — William Morris
An oversized Symbolist canvas print in brown and aqua. Her lifted wings and the pale sea-green sky behind them carry the eye upward, lending height and open air to a hallway, hotel lobby or stairwell wall.
Visual Presence
Across a room the pale aqua sky reads as open air, visually pushing the wall back and cooling the space around it. The figure's terracotta warmth and the single sweep of red wing keep the canvas glowing even under low evening light. Hung tall, she stands close to life size, giving a stair wall or double-height corridor one commanding focal point.
About the Art
William Morris Hunt painted this winged Fortune as a study for The Discoverer, his mural for the Assembly Chamber of the New York State Capitol in Albany, where she steers Christopher Columbus's vessel — one hand on the rudder, the other spreading the sail. The finished murals deteriorated and were sealed away behind a new ceiling, still hidden today, which makes this surviving canvas one of the few places the composition can be seen. With much of Hunt's earlier work destroyed in the Great Boston Fire, we chose this rare, monumental figure for its scale and its story.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
