Visual Presence
From across the room the canvas reads as a black field broken by one diagonal of lamplit skin, turning the wall into a lit stage in a dark theatre. All that black gives a dining or bar wall real depth after dusk, while the pale figures stay sharp from the far end of the table. It delivers energy without colour noise, so the room around it can stay quiet.
About the Art
George Bellows (1882–1925), Realism, painted 1909. George Bellows painted this bout at a raucous saloon with a backroom boxing ring, run by the ex-fighter and former Navy man Tom 'Sailor' Sharkey near Bellows's own studio. Public boxing was illegal in New York then, so matches were held as private club events; an outsider allowed to compete was given temporary membership and known as a 'stag' — the title records that loophole. The Cleveland Museum of Art, which holds the canvas in its Hinman B. Hurlbut Collection, notes the sport drew admirers as prominent as President Theodore Roosevelt. We chose it for its sheer physical force — two bodies built from slashing, urgent strokes of paint.

Stretched Canvas Construction
Each canvas is mounted on 4.2 cm (1.65 in) deep stretcher bars made from Australian pine. The canvas is tightly stretched and wrapped around these solid wooden frames, giving it a strong, gallery-grade structure with noticeable depth — ideal for large or statement pieces.
This thickness adds durability and a clean, modern presentation, allowing the artwork to stand out beautifully without additional framing.
Edge Style
By default, all stretched canvases use a mirrored edge for a clean, continuous look. If you prefer a black or white edge, please mention it in your checkout notes; otherwise, the mirrored edge will be applied automatically.
For sizes exceeding 200x300 cm, we will split the canvas into two seamless panels to meet courier shipping limitations. The split is crafted to ensure the image remains continuous and flawless across both panels. You can choose to display the panels with or without a gap for different visual effects.
If you select the framed option, each panel will be framed separately to ensure secure shipping and easy handling.
Examples:
- A 240x300 cm artwork will be divided into two panels of 120x300 cm each.
- A 240x400 cm artwork will be split into two panels of 240x200 cm each.
This approach maintains the visual impact and flexibility of oversized pieces while accommodating shipping needs.
