We chose it for the angle: Bauer looks down on a village corner from above, so the tiled roof, not the sky and not a figure, becomes the largest shape on the canvas and the street runs off at the bottom edge. He was self-taught, worked as technical manager of the Košice city power plant, and became a leading name of the Košice Moderna, Slovakia's first avant-garde, painting the working edges of that town.
