The cream and gold clouds fill the upper half with a warm late-light that the pale water underneath throws straight back, so the room brightens without one strong colour anywhere in it. De Saedeleer had moved to the Leie at Sint-Martens-Latem with Georges Minne and Gustave van de Woestyne, the first of the two artist groups that made the village famous, and here he hands almost the whole panel to a cloud bank and its reflection, keeping the geese, a beached flat boat and one bare black branch as the only incident.
